There is plenty of water activities to do in and around Swellendam. As Swellendam is located on the foot of a big mountain range it allows for lots of gorges, waterfalls, rock pools, dams and rivers. Most of these natural pools really makes you believe that you are in paradise. Some of these pools take a small hike to get there, but once you are there it will be all worth it.
If you do not feel like hiking to get to the water there is also lovely places that is much easier to access, by car and by boat.
The Bontebok National Park 5 km outside of Swellendam is a lovely place to go see wildlife, go for a hike or mountain biking, but most of all to go picnic and swim in the magnificent Breede River.
Duiwelbos hike is up a beautiful waterfall in Marloth Nature Reserve that ends at a very cold, but extremely beautiful rock pool. Make sure that you get your permit from the main door at Marloth Nature Reserves main gate.
Umshanti on the Buffeljachts Dam is a heaven for people who loves water sports. You can hire a canoe for day or go on the big wooden raft where you can braai and spend the day in the beautiful gorge.
